The public right of way known as Gummer’s Lane has been upgraded to the status of restricted byway so we may now legally ride our horses along this route.

Sommerset County Concil have confirmed the Puckington to Stocklinch DMMO submitted by SSBA.
The public right of way known as Gummer’s Lane has been upgraded to the status of restricted byway so we may now legally ride our horses along this route.
Nancy (one of our members) was shocked to find that one of the two swallows nesting in her barn had become tangled and died in a loop of binder twine which was included in the nest.
Perhaps due to the dry spring, not enough mud was foundfor nest building.
So the message is, please collect and put away all the odd bits of twine from hay bales.
Swallows nesting in stables are precious to us.

About 8 miles, some road to start and finish. Mostly droves and canal paths.
Level and easy to map read as all straight lines.

Trailers are ok to squeeze carefully through to the parking field. Lorries need a space booked nearby.
The ground for this ride has probably been unusually dry, now after a stormy week some of it may be soggy. We will check before the ride.
Our chair, Sarah Bucks, has been working hard on getting as many new safe riding routes as possible out of the A303 Sparkford to Ilchester improvement scheme. Sarah recently responded to ‘Deadline 7’ and there is only one more deadline to go before June 12th.
